ECLIPSE SECURITY, INC. CHOSEN AS SECURITY PROVIDER FOR LEED CERTIFIED PROJECT; WHEELER TERRACE

Eclipse Security, Inc. has been selected to provide security and safety systems at Wheeler Terrace, a 113-unit affordable apartment community in Washington Highlands. In late 2007, the Community Preservation and Development Corp. (CPDC) worked with residents to purchase the property, which will apply for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Meeting those standards is especially difficult for a complex of old, drafty, water-damaged buildings. CPDC will tear sheet rock from apartment walls to add wider studs and two to three inches of extra insulation to the exterior. CPDC will install energy-efficient windows and Energy Star-rated appliances. Geothermal wells will help the new heat pumps that heat and cool individual units to run more efficiently on frigid days.

One of the seven buildings will even have a green roof equipped with a Pan/Tilt/Zoom Camera (PTZ) so visitors in the green learning center can control the camera to view the roof and learn about what it entails. Aaron Kahn, owner of Eclipse Security, Inc. was excited to consult during the design of this project particularly when it came to the green components. “When the topic of the green learning center came up along with the green roof, I immediately thought that a PTZ could provide an easy way to see what is occurring right above them. Of course, when the PTZ isn’t being used to look at the green roof it adds another security tool to better monitor the property”, said Kahn.

Eclipse will install a CCTV system equipped with Honeywell cameras and a Remote Eyes DVR which will monitor the pedestrian gates, vehicle gates and all access points to the buildings throughout the property. Eclipse chose a Honeywell Win-Pak access control system to control those gaining access to the property, buildings and parking lot. All visitors will also have to be buzzed in to the building’s using a telephone entry system.
