ECLIPSE SECURITY, INC. COMPLETES INSTALLATION AT THE OVERLOOK APARTMENT BUILDING

Eclipse Security, Inc. has recently completed an integrated systems installation for communication, safety and security for The Overlook; a twelve-story high-rise apartment complex in South East, Washington DC. The existing building previously known as Parkside Terrace will be converted into 316 units of "affordable" rental housing, with seven floors of housing for low-income seniors with rental assistance by the DC Housing Authority. The $73 million project was financed entirely by the city through the DC Housing Finance Agency through a bond program.

Eclipse installed a CCTV system equipped with Honeywell cameras and a Remote Eyes DVR which will monitor the interior and exterior of the building including the parking lots and all access points to the property. The senior living residents are equipped with a Tel-Tron Emergency Call System that includes pull stations in all rooms along with a wireless pendant they can carry throughout the building. Should a senior need assistance, the pendant or pull station will notify the appropriate party immediately. Also included in the security design is a Honeywell Win-Pak access control system that will better control those gaining access both to and throughout the building.

Eclipse also installed a campus wide intercom system that allows for onsite staff to communicate to all tenants or a selected area in case of an emergency. Telephone entry will be utilized for visitors to reach tenants so they can be granted access to enter the building and will further reduce unauthorized access to the property.
The Overlook is owned by Community Preservation and Development and managed by Crawford Edgewood Management Inc., a company headed by former D.C. Council member H.R. Crawford. Community activity rooms, a gym, a computer room, a health-care suite for seniors, a laundry, a playground, a convenience store and a hair salon will bring amenities to residents on site.

"Now, we're going to have a great mixed-use [building]. You've got two bedrooms for people with moderate incomes, one-bedrooms for low-income seniors. . . . It's going to fit into the townhouses right next to them," said council member Marion Barry (D-Ward 8), chairman of the Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs. "It creates a different dynamic in the neighborhood."
